How to Earn From Adventure Games, Install to Payout

Written by
Terry Quinn

Before you install

The single most valuable thing you can do with an adventure offer happens before you touch the install button. Open the offer terms and find the exact milestone wording. Adventure games use several different progress counters at once — chapter, quest, area, story level, player level — and they do not advance in step. An offer that says chapter twelve is not satisfied by reaching player level twelve, and the two can be weeks apart.

Next, look at the deadline. Most adventure offers give you somewhere between one and four weeks. Because progress in this category is close to linear, you can do something here that is unreliable everywhere else: estimate honestly. Assume the first chapters are faster than average, because tutorials hand out free energy, and pad your estimate accordingly.

  1. Read the milestone wording and note which counter it names.
  2. Check the deadline and count the actual days you will be able to play, not the calendar days.
  3. Check the download size before committing, especially for role-playing titles.
  4. Confirm the offer is available on your device platform, not just in general.

Installing correctly

Tracking is the part that quietly ruins otherwise successful attempts, and it is entirely avoidable. Install through the TryRewards offer link and let it carry you into the store rather than searching for the game yourself. That handoff is what ties your play session to your account, and there is no way to reattach it afterwards.

If you have played the game before on the same device or store account, stop and check whether the offer accepts returning players. Most do not. Old save data will usually be detected, and a fresh account inside the game does not always clear it. It is better to lose ten seconds checking than to lose two weeks of chapters.

Once installed, open the game from your home screen and play the first session immediately. A short first session registers the install properly and confirms the offer has moved to an in-progress state on your side. If it has not appeared as in progress within a few hours, deal with it then rather than at the deadline.

Playing the chapters

Now the actual work, which in adventure games means managing energy rather than playing well. Energy refills on a clock and stops accumulating once your bar is full, so any hour spent at full energy is progress you have thrown away. The whole game plan follows from that one fact.

Spend down to empty before you put the phone away, especially last thing at night. A bar that fills overnight and then sits full until lunchtime is half a day wasted. Two short sessions at either end of the day will consistently beat one long session in the middle, even if the long session feels more productive while you are in it.

Skip the story if the game lets you. This feels wrong in a genre built on story, and if you are enjoying it there is no reason to. But when a deadline is close, dialogue is the cheapest thing to cut, because it costs time without costing energy.

Getting paid

When you cross the milestone, do not close the game straight away. Stay in it for a minute or two so the progress event has a chance to report, then open TryRewards and check that the offer status has changed. Most credits land quickly, though some take up to a day depending on the advertiser.

  • A screenshot of the chapter or quest screen at the moment you crossed the milestone.
  • Your in-game display name, visible in the same screenshot if possible.
  • The date and rough time you installed, and the date you finished.
  • The game still installed on the device until the reward has settled.

If it has not credited after a reasonable wait, raise it while you still have evidence. Screenshots of the chapter screen with your in-game name visible are the most useful thing you can supply, so take one at the moment you finish rather than reconstructing it later. Keep the game installed until the reward is settled, since uninstalling can complicate verification.

After it settles, decide deliberately whether you are keeping the game. Plenty of people finish an adventure offer and carry on playing, which is fine. Just make that a choice rather than a drift, and free the install slot if you are not going to use it.
