    The short version
    • Rank by reward per hour you control, not by headline reward.
    • Live multiplayer ladders carry a delay cost that never shows on the offer card.
    • The best board offer is the one whose rhythm matches the days you actually have.

    Payout is not the number

Comparing board offers by their top-line figure gets you the wrong answer more often than in almost any other game category. Two ladders advertising similar rewards can differ by a factor of two in real hours, because one of them is a solo puzzle you can grind at will and the other is a sequence of matches that depend on strangers turning up.

The useful unit is reward per hour of time you actually control. Time spent waiting in a lobby, watching an opponent's turn timer expire, or sitting at a full dice balance while you sleep is time the offer costs you but you cannot compress. Once you start counting that way the ranking changes considerably.

    Three offer shapes

Shape one — solo level ladders

Tile connect, wooden slide puzzles, nonogram grids and timed block clearers. Milestones are level numbers, which makes the whole cost estimable before you install: play ten levels, time it, multiply. Rewards sit at the modest end of the category, but there is no hidden delay anywhere in the ladder and you can finish one in a weekend if you want to.

Shape two — dice and property boards

The roll-and-move games where progress is measured in boards, stickers or collections. Rewards climb meaningfully here because the ladders run longer. The gate is the dice balance rather than your patience, so the calendar cost is largely fixed no matter how keen you are, and the offer window matters more than your enthusiasm.

Shape three — live opponent boards

Ludo and parchis, mancala, live bingo rooms, dice tournaments. These carry the strongest rewards in the category, and the reason is honest — the publisher wants demonstrated multiplayer retention, which is the hardest thing to fake. The cost is that matchmaking and turn timers sit inside every milestone, and neither answers to you.

    What the card omits

Every offer card states the reward and the milestones. None of them state the following, and all of it is part of the price you pay.

    • Queue time, which varies by region and by hour and can be a third of a multiplayer session.
    • Turn-timer drag, where opponents take the maximum allowed on every move.
    • Refill ceilings, which cap what any single day of a dice game can produce.
    • Win-rate exposure, when a milestone counts wins and your opponents get a say in it.
    • Event distraction, where hours of play feed a leaderboard the offer counter ignores.

None of these make an offer bad. They simply mean the honest comparison happens after you have added them, and a live multiplayer ladder needs a visibly larger reward than a solo one to come out level.

    How I would rank them

On reward per controllable hour, solo level ladders win. They pay least in absolute terms and most in predictability, they are the safest first offer, and you can run one alongside a busy fortnight without it collapsing. If the goal is a reliable completion, start here.

Dice and property boards come next, and they suit anyone whose phone is already in their hand several times a day. The reward is stronger and the daily commitment is small, but the calendar is not negotiable, so only take one if the offer window comfortably exceeds the pace the refill allows.

Live opponent boards pay the most and deserve to, but I would only take one if I genuinely enjoy the game and expect to play it at peak hours most evenings. Taken purely for the reward, they are the ladder most likely to stall halfway through and leave you with hours spent and nothing settled.

    • Tight schedule or first offer — solo level ladder.
    • Frequent short check-ins available — dice and property board.
    • Enjoy the game and play in the evenings — live opponent board.
    • Unsure — take the shorter window over the bigger number.
