The headline number lies

Two puzzle offers sit next to each other on the wall. One says a hundred and twenty, the other says forty. The hundred and twenty looks obviously better, and for most players it is obviously worse.

The reason is that the big number is the sum of the entire ladder, including a final milestone that a small minority of players ever reach. The forty is often front-loaded across three quick milestones you will clear in a weekend. Ranking offers by their top line is ranking them by a number you probably will not collect.

Compare on four axes

1. First-milestone payout — what lands in your balance on day one. This also proves attribution.
2. Payout to the halfway point — the amount a normal player realistically collects.
3. Level pacing — how much slower the game gets after the tutorial curve ends.
4. Window length — a generous ladder inside a seven-day window is not generous.

Score each offer on those four and the ranking usually inverts. The flashiest tiles on the wall tend to be back-loaded, and the quiet mid-range ones tend to be the ones people actually finish.

A quick sanity check

Divide the payout you would collect at the halfway milestone by the number of evenings it plausibly takes. If that figure is not attractive, the far milestone will not rescue it, because the far milestone takes longer per unit of reward, not less.

Sort

The friendliest pacing on the wall. Sort titles are short-session, rarely have a hard fail, and their milestones tend to be level counts you can grind reliably. Payouts are lower but conversion is the highest.

Jigsaw and hidden object

No fail state at all, which makes the time cost extremely predictable. If you value knowing exactly what an offer will take, this is the mechanic to pick.

The pick

For most people the right answer is a sort or merge offer in the middle of the payout range, with a first milestone you can clear the same night and a window of at least three weeks.

The big match-3 ladders are genuinely worth it, but only if you were going to play the game anyway. Chasing one purely for the payout is how people end up with forty hours invested and a milestone still two hundred levels away.
