    The short version
    • A bigger strategy payout always means a longer ladder, never an easier one.
    • Compare offers by the final milestone, not by the number on the card.
    • Front-loaded ladders pay less overall but far more per hour spent.

    Reward tracks ladder length

The strategy section of an offer wall looks wildly inconsistent until you notice the pattern: the payout figure and the depth of the milestone list move together, almost exactly. A big number is not a better deal being offered by a more generous publisher. It is a longer commitment, priced accordingly.

So the useful comparison is never between headline figures. It is between what the last rung of each ladder demands and how many days of ordinary play that represents for you specifically. Two offers with the same figure can differ by a week of effort, and the card will not tell you which is which.

    Three ladder shapes

    Front-loaded

Most of the value sits in the first four or five rungs, which land within a couple of days. These carry the smallest totals in the category and the best return on your time by a wide margin. They exist because publishers want a cheap first look at a lot of players, and they are the sensible default if you are not sure you will stick with a game.

    Even-stepped

Rungs of roughly equal value spread across ten or twelve steps, running out to a fortnight or so. The most common shape, and the fairest, because abandoning halfway still leaves you with half the money. Titles built around steady base progression, like Lords Mobile or The Ants, tend to sit here.

    Back-loaded

Small change for the first several rungs and a large final payment for one deep milestone. The biggest headline figures on the wall are almost always this shape. They are also the only shape where quitting early leaves you with essentially nothing, which makes them a genuine gamble on your own follow-through.

    Where the wall sits

Every one of these games has a point where build times jump and the shop gets loud. The single most useful question about any strategy offer is whether the final milestone sits before that point or after it, because that determines whether the ladder is a matter of patience or a matter of money.

    • Milestone before the wall — finishable with routine play and free speed-ups.
    • Milestone roughly at the wall — finishable, but only if you banked resources and speed-ups earlier.
    • Milestone past the wall — realistically needs either a month of grinding or a purchase.
    • Milestone requiring an alliance objective — depends on other people, so it is finishable only on an active server.

Server age is the other half of that alliance question. A freshly opened server is full of people at your stage who need the same shared objectives, while an old one is mostly dormant accounts and a handful of veterans with no reason to help. If an offer's final rung is co-operative, the server you land on matters as much as the game does.

You cannot always tell from the card, but you can get close. A final rung expressed as a mid-range base level is usually before the wall. One expressed as a large power figure, or as a high troop tier, is usually after it.

    Ranking by effort

Measured as reward per hour rather than reward per offer, front-loaded ladders win outright and it is not close. A few days of tutorial-adjacent play for a modest sum beats a fortnight for a large one, and you can run several of them in the time one deep ladder takes.

    • Best per hour: front-loaded ladders on any title you can install cleanly.
    • Best overall total for reasonable effort: even-stepped ladders on a game you would play anyway.
    • Worth it only if you are certain: back-loaded ladders with the final rung past the paywall.

Even-stepped ladders are where I would actually spend my time, though. They pay properly, they reward the habits that make these games pleasant rather than tedious, and every rung banked stays banked. Back-loaded offers I would take only on a game I already liked, because the reward stops being the reason to keep playing long before the last rung arrives.
